We are excited to announce that Artlift has been awarded two years of funding from Macmillan to support:
- 4 editions of Flourish Magazine, a publication by and for the cancer community
- 6 creative health workshops with marginalised communities
- 2 exhibitions showcasing work submitted to the magazine
Flourish was originally established in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support in 2016 for adults living with or moving on from cancer. Thanks to their investment and a grant from the County Council’s GLoW (Gloucestershire Wellbeing) fund, Arts on Prescription courses were run until 2022.
In 2022, Artlift partnered with the UK’s integrative cancer care charity Yes to Life to launch Flourish Magazine, aimed to promote the benefits of a creative and integrative approach to cancer and connect people living with/beyond cancer and the medical professionals working with them. The magazine is available to read for free online, with physical copies distributed across Gloucestershire and Bristol.
Six issues of the magazine have been published, with submissions of creative writing, artwork, photography, music, sculpture and more coming from contributors both local and international, from professional artists as well as those who had never done anything creative before.
After a short hiatus, we are delighted to be bringing Flourish back 2026 – 2028! You can join us 30 October – 14 November for a Flourish exhibition at University of Gloucestershire’s The Bon Gallery in their City Campus in Kings Square, Gloucester. You can see some of the powerful submissions to Flourish magazine in person and celebrate 20 years of Artlift with us.
Submissions for the next issue of the magazine will open soon. Follow Artlift on social media to be the first to hear updates on Instagram at @artsonprescription or on Facebook at @artstomakeyoufeelbetter
A huge thank you to Macmillan for funding this project – Flourish would not be possible without their support.
