Brought to you by Artlift and Restore Black C.I.C.

Are you a Black man looking for support in a judgment-free space? Due to societal structural racism, Black individuals—especially Black men—often face disparities in mental health. But you don’t have to navigate this journey alone.

Starting Thursday, 9th October to Thursday, 27th November, every Thursday from 6 to 8pm, join us for empowering group discussions and creative activities!

At our inaugural sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and explore vital topics such as Black masculinity, decolonisation, and misinformation. We will also delve into the words, actions, and experiences that have shaped you, reflecting on the coping strategies you’ve implemented and the reasons behind them – all while being supported by a qualified therapist and Creative Health specialist.

Why Black Kings?

The name “Black Kings” was chosen to honour our legacy – a people who were once kings, queens, pharaohs, mathematicians, architects, and rulers of their own destinies. Black history is rich with powerful men and women – our queens and kings – who built and led great civilizations. Sadly, the legacy of slavery tried to strip us of our true identities, reducing us to property, and leaving lasting trauma – through intergenerational trauma and the impact of racism – that still affects us today.

This group has been created especially for Black men – a circle of kings – so they can come together, support one another, and reclaim their sense of pride, purpose, and mental wellbeing. Inspired by the words of Marcus Garvey, “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery,” we gather to heal, uplift, and remind ourselves of our strength and greatness as Black kings.

While our queens are a vital part of our history and our lives, this space is dedicated to empowering Black men to address the unique challenges they face, so they can thrive and take our rightful place as leaders, brothers, fathers, and kings.

Why is this group important?
• We are often viewed as “hard to reach”- this is a myth!
• Did you know Black men are disproportionately affected by mental health issues and are more likely to be diagnosed with severe conditions?
• Did you know: According to NHS statistics from 2021–2022, ‘Black or Black British’ individuals are four times more likely than those from ‘any white background’ to be detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA), and over eleven times more likely to be given a Community Treatment Order (CTO)?
• Did you know, research shows that those exposed to racism are more likely to experience mental health problems?
This group seeks to challenge these disparities and address the myth of being “hard to reach,” providing a supportive community where healing and understanding can flourish.

Be Part of a Transformative Experience!
Join us as we create a space for growth, conversation, and artistic expression. Together, let’s dismantle stigmas and celebrate you – our Black brothers and your mental well-being!

Don’t miss this opportunity to speak, be heard, be supported, and valued.
